• does the wind blow because it wants to be heard
or water flow because it wants to be felt
is natures landscape there to be talked about
or painted by a great artist in the making
or the rainbow appear because it wants to be
    looked at in awe
do the moon and stars shine because
they want to inspire some poetic
tenderness to an otherwise lonely night
does the poet write because he seeks
    recognition, or great riches
no, the poet writes because he must
there is a need, a hunger to put pen to paper
his soul is fed by the very things that we take for granted
he can find beauty in the simplest gesture
    inspiration in the smallest act.
    poetry runs through him
like the water that rushes out to meet the sea
like the moon that lends a subtlety to our thoughts
like the rainbow that crowns the sky on a wet afternoon
poetry is a part of him just as nature is a part
of the world that surrounds us all.
